A 50 MINUTE PROGRAM -
LAUGH-ALONG SING- ALONG FEEL-GOOD LIVE ENTERTAINMENT
The Very Best in Nostalgia and Entertainment
"ERIK ESTRADA, MARILYN MONROE & GOOD OL' WHAT'S HER NAME"
I try to keep my stories more about what you might remember from the days when entertainment was truly entertaining than about my own experiences while working in Hollywood. We will chuckle together, and sing some of our favorite movie songs, and we might even wipe away a nostalgic tear or two. Mostly we'll have a darn good time!
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING:
"Audiences laugh, they cry, but mostly they remember."
"One of the warmest, most engaging, talks your group will ever hear."
Erik and Don't Cry, the German Shepherd he rescued. Erik loved dogs and kids. In fact, one day, while CHiPs was filming on the MGM lot, I took a call from a father desperate to have Erik/Ponch speak to his little boy who was about to undergo life-threatening brain surgery. You won't believe what Erik did that changed the child's life forever ...
Almost everyone has someone who made a tremendous impression on their young life. For me, it was June Allyson. She was the reason I went to work at MGM, the influence that helped shape me. So, imagine my surprise when I learned who I would be working with at the studio. God works in mysterious ways, for sure... for sure...
About the movie M.A.S.H. ... When I was nineteen and living in Kansas City, I worked on a low budget film, "The Cool and the Crazy". Robert Altman did something on it, too, though I don't remember what. We were sitting on a bed in an old apartment building, talking about things in general, and I figured this was a kid who was going nowhere fast...
"I loved her so much," the producer told me. "At midnight, on the anniversary of her death, I always sit in my car, in front of the house where she died. Won't you come with me this time... let me tell you about the last time I was with her... the night before she died..." (From my talk, Erik Estrada, Marilyn Monroe & What's Her Name.
Insider story on how this movie came close to never being seen by the public!
"Please don't let me ever be alone... I have a premonition I'll die if I'm ever left alone..." The last interview Red Foley gave was the one he granted me ... it may still be heard at the Red Foley display at Nashville's County Music Hall of Fame.
He hadn't made a film in years, but when Cary Grant asked what I was up to, I thought I'd melt for sure, right there on the MGM backlot...
Bob Altman laughed when he repeated to me what M.A.S.H. investors told him... "If we had known it was you who directed that terrible film we would never have hired you for this one!"
"I'd stand in the big open doors of the sound stage where Esther Williams made so many movies and I'd think how in the world did I get here? I'm just a nobody from nowhere and I'm here... MGM was the greatest experience of my life. At that moment, Steven Spielberg was shooting submarine scenes for his movie "1941" on that stage, in the tank where Williams once swam...the largest sound stage in Hollywood."
"Go ahead, Wanda," Red Foley urged. " Sign the lady's autograph book." So, I signed God Bless, Wanda Jackson.
"Oh, Mr. Tubbs! I never dreamed I'd ever get to meet my favorite singer! I've got every one of your records . Can I please have your autograph? I just LOVE you." The place was the State Fair in Topeka, Kansas. The farm lady had cornered us in the Ramanda Inn Coffee Shop. Nevermind that Ernest Tubb was nowhere in sight. She was gushing over my friend, Red Foley. He obligingly signed: Best wishes always, Ernest Tubb. And then she asked for my autograph. You'll get a chuckle when I tell you what happened next.
Anton LaVey was on the cover of Life Magazine as leader of the Devil Cult. On this rainy night, however, he was just a man with his wife, watching the ghost of Marilyn Monroe materialize right in front of them...
Directed by Robert Altman.
Some of my stories about these personalities are funny, some are touching, some are ... well, there's just no category.
Betty Short, known as The Black Dahlia. My insider information on her murder is chilling, but true...
